I use a lot of sites for information and just wanted to share it with others and possibly find out where you source your information from. I am not a trader, more of a long term investor - so I may find some site more useful than others. Oh you might observe that most are free. I mean Company Refs would be good but since i can't afford it - the following will do for now.

Comdirect - useful for watchlist and tracking stocks
http://focus.comdirect.co.uk/focus/marketf...ists/index.html

Yahoo beta Finance - New look page for Stock information
http://uk.beta.finance.yahoo.com/
http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/

Digital look - Some Good info with heat maps/stock screener. Usually a good first point of research into a stock.
http://www.digitallook.com/

MSN Money - fantastic resource for comparing stocks and getting all those ratio. Contains annual reports of most companies for the last 4years or so.
http://uk.moneycentral.msn.com/investor/quotes/quotes.asp

MoneyAM - promising but the Stockwatcher is very good for a quick glance at the damage happening in one's portfolio. (also free streaming info on trades - useful on a day you want to buy your to know what is going on. This feature is limited as it will time out)
http://www.moneyam.com/

Hoodless - Have a research page for aim and ofex stock useful for general info.
https://www.hoodlessbrennan.com/index1.htm

Keep up with all the RNS from companies you follow by email especially those that release them after trading hours.
http://www.uk-wire.com/cgi-bin/newsalert

I know some people don't like IC that much but I find it a good read and for finding out about other stocks. Good reference point - has info dating back to 2001 at least.
http://www.investorschronicle.co.uk/content/home.html

Some Good research papers (at least on some stocks I follow)
http://www.brokerlink.co.uk/

Evolution Research Group
http://www.evbgresearch.com/

Charles Stanley Research
http://www.charles-stanley.co.uk/Research.jsp

Hemscott - Some Good Comments here - Atimes Attempting to sell your tip service subscription but nevertheless useful.
http://www.hemscott.com/hstoday/1999/companycomment_body.htm

I don't really use this as I first did. Worth a Look.
http://www.lemminginvestor.com/

KBC peel Hunt - I really like this guys and I don't know why. One point - you might need to download the research paper if you need to make future reference as would not be there after a week.
http://www.kbcpeelhunt.com/home.asp

Company Refs - ok I can't afford their product but I still use your site for reference of finance terms which throw me off.
http://refsonline.hemscott.com/help/start.htm

Planetmong Screener - useful
http://www.planetmong.com/screener/

OK I will add more as I go along. Please add and critise any site which you feel should be or should not be here.

ps SB/Teal - would it be a good idea to have a post like this which contains resources pinned so members don't have to search to find it - if it is however common information - that is ok then. biggrin2.gif

Remzy,

Great thread - many thanks for this, I've pinned it to the top as suggested.

Off the top of my head, I'll add:

http://www.numiscorp.com/x/MainResearch.html
&
http://www.killikmorningnote.co.uk

Both are for daily updates from those two brokers.

Another site I use daily is http://www.citywire.co.uk and you'll see each day in the daily thread a link to the Newspaper tips from Citywire each morning!

I find that the best site for having a portfolio is www.moneyextra/portfolio
The only drawback is that prices are delayed by 20 mins. Once you have loaded up a portfolio click on a company name and an annual graph appears. By clicking again you can view graphs over different time scales. You can also superimpose graphs from different companies on top of each other.

Another useful site is www.find.co.uk

I have used this website for my portfolios: http://www.digitallook.com , they also send you emails in the morning with updates on your stocks. I will have to try out the moneyextra link as it may be superior.

I've been saving this for a rainy day! I haven't used it yet, but I believe it allows you to import share prices into Excel and perform technical analysis on that data:

BLOOMBERG UK TV - DAILY GUEST LIST

If you have Broadband and get up early you can check the days guest list then watch them on TV over your computer.

1. Get up early
2. Read guest list.
3. Select "Launch Video player"
4. Select live feed = UK
5. Set player settings.
6. Wait a few seconds it takes time to get going.

In late afternoon I switch live feed to US and can then watch breaking news in the States and things like Greenspan when he appears before a senate committee etc.

They do stocks from all around the world!

If you're wanting a chart for a UK stock, you need to put UK: before the EPIC.

For example

For a long time I was puzzled about the buy sells ratio. I would despair at my chosen stock not moving up when there was 5 : 1 buy sells.

If you are wondering about this also, check out this fantastic article written by Mr David Anderson who sadly is no longer with us. Nice of him to share his knowledge with fellow investors

You need to login to ADVFN and it is a worthwhile tool in your trade anyway, so get a free registration

Everyone knows the crazy frog ringtones, and now music is storming the UK. Obviously all such things have a lifespan, but this is getting bigger and bigger. The company responsible would appear to be kaktus.com (Swedish).

I reckon there's still a few months killing to be made with this irritating little goldmine charachter.

Does anyone out there already have shares in the this company?

Try shooting the little blighter on the following - it may make you feel better.

This ecurrency exchanging is for real as far as alot people involved in. I had stumbled on this a few months ago and had put in some money to test the water. It's performing better than stock and mutual funds, which I am thinking of switching out soon. Check this sites for more info, and let me know what you think.
I suggest you dont pay too much for the course. The beginning is a bit confusing to start with but after you learn the basics, it just gets easier everyday.

Contrary to what Mick Jagger says, time is definitely not on my side, as such I don't get chance to trawl the various broker research pages much anymore.

As well as the excellent sites posted above I don't think these have been mentioned before (all require free registration):

http://www.danielstewart.co.uk/ - (I think you have to sign up for their mail shot now)
http://www.edisoninvestmentresearch.co.uk
http://www.equity-development.co.uk/client/index.html - (Seems to pick some good ones)

http://www.wh-ireland.co.uk/research/ -(Very infrequent updates - and no longer cover the mining sector)

You can also access Charles Stanley's research here: (Mainly large caps)
http://www.charles-stanley.co.uk/Research/...ocks/PDF+Notes/
- but its a huge directory listing, so if too many people hit it too often it may get closed down.

Came across www.chart-breakouts.co.uk yesterday (was on the SOLA advfn thread) looks good and they picked SOLA last week at around 215 for a nice rise to breakout.Last picks had a good run on friday as well, site seems free to use.Interesting to note their examples page contains some pretty amazing breakouts, ukc, adm to name but 2.
Breakouts seems to becoming a real popular trading method.

I am newish to investing with only about 2 years experiance.

I thought that I would share this website with everybody as I have had nothing but good results from them

www.investwithguidance.com

Its very simple. You fill in one of their questionnaires and then they search loads of different brokerage houses, research houses and other such places, and then they put you in contact with the best suited, depedning on what you have told them.

Let me know what you think

FSA Handbook

QUOTE
Re: trading updates: they definitely count for closed period purposess, but the recommended period seems to be a bit flexible and is often a bit less than a month without anybody batting an eyelid.

It can quite legitimately be less than a month. In particular, look at your quote:

'...
Broadly, a close period exists for the period of two months preceding the publication of an AIM company's annual results or half-yearly report, the period of one month preceding the notification of quarterly results (or, if shorter in each case, the period from the relevant financial period end to the time of publication) or any other period when the AIM company is in possession of price sensitive information.'

A period of two months is mentioned for annual results and half-yearly reports - but if the company takes less than two months from the end of the year or half year being reported on to releasing the results, it can be less.

A period of one month is mentioned for quarterly results, but again it can be reduced if the company takes less than one month from the the end of the quarter being reported on to releasing the results.

No minimum period is stated for a close period when the company is in possession of price-sensitive information. It can easily last for just hours.

It's all spelt out in greater precision in the Model Code itself, which can be found in http://fsahandbook.info/FSA/html/handbook/LR/9/Annex1. That actually has two definitions: "close period" just covers the results-related periods, while "prohibited period" additionally covers the periods with price-sensitive information (known as "inside information" there). Note incidentally that the definition of the results-related close periods differs somewhat from the one in your quote, which looks closer to the version in effect before some changes in January this year - the "2 in a circle" links in the Model Code go to the lengthy details of those changes if you're interested.

The rules about buybacks in prohibited periods are set out in http://fsahandbook.info/FSA/html/handbook/LR/12/2.
